When God Chooses the Unexpected

Our mission often takes us to the edges of the map, deep into places where the Gospel has yet to take root. Once, our partners ventured into an unreached village in Mali, seeking that crucial initial connection: a person of peace. The person God led them to was not who anyone expected.

The individual identified as the potential "person of peace" was the village's witch doctor.

For three long years, this respected, yet isolated, man had been paralyzed, confined to a rickshaw to move around the community. Despite his traditional role, he showed a remarkable, deep interest in studying God’s Word. Our partners immediately recognized the opportunity.

They began a Discovery Bible Study (DBS) with him and a small group of other villagers. Week after week, they opened the Scriptures together, allowing God's Word to speak for itself.

The Prayer That Launched a Miracle

After a few weekly meetings, one of our partners felt a powerful, undeniable conviction: he needed to pray for healing for the paralyzed witch doctor.

He obeyed the prompting and prayed. Healing didn't come in a sudden flash, but what followed was a testament to persistent faith and the unfolding power of God.

With each subsequent DBS meeting, the man grew perceptibly stronger.

  • First, he found the strength to attempt walking.

  • Then, he progressed to walking steadily with a cane.

  • Finally, to the astonishment and joy of the village, he was walking completely without assistance!

More Than Physical Healing

The evidence was undeniable: a man who had been paralyzed for three years was now walking. He stood before his neighbors and declared, "My eyes are open, and the Word of God is the truth."

Yet, the most profound miracle wasn't the physical healing he received, though that was glorious. Far more important is the spiritual healing he is embracing as he continues to study the truth of the Gospel.

Praise God that even the most unexpected people—the most unlikely candidates—can be exactly who He has in mind to rescue, heal, and transform!
